Taylor starts season with pair of top-5 finishes in Ernie Mincy Early Thaw

Last year, Jeff Taylor closed out his 2023 campaign with a win at Central Arizona Raceway (Casa Grande, Arizona) in the Battle at CAR. On Friday and Saturday, Taylor kicked off 2024 with two top-five results on the final two nights of the Ernie Mincy Early Thaw at the same track in The Grand Canyon State.

On Friday, Taylor was part of a 41-car IMCA Modified field at the 3/8-mile oval. He started strong with a heat race win in his No. 5 Shaw Race Cars machine, then started fourth in the 20-lap, $1,000-to-win A-Main. He took the checkered flag in the runner-up spot, 2.830 seconds behind winner Ricky Alvarado. Spencer Wilson, Troy Morris III and Collen Winebarger completed the top five.

The next night, 36 Modifieds descended on Central Arizona Raceway for another $1,000-to-win show. Taylor grabbed second in his heat, putting him in the 10th spot to start the 25-lap feature. He picked up six positions to finish fourth, chasing Morris, Jordan Tocci and Chaz Baca across the start-finish line. Wilson came home fifth.
